October Barre Star, Sarah S.:
Since she started at Barre Forte in May, Sarah has already taken over 90 classes! She comes to class with a BIG smile on her face and works hard to “Meet her Best” each day. She was also the first participant to complete our current “Make it a Habit Challenge”!

1) Where are you from, and how long have you been in Gainesville?
I am from Jasper, FL which is a small town in Hamilton County. I moved to Gainesville for school 4 years ago, and I don't plan on leaving. I graduated from the Radiography program in June 2015 and began working in that field; I am now in the Sonography program.
2) What's your favorite Barre-themed shirt?
It's hard to choose just one favorite, but I will go with the "Everyday I'm Tuckin'" tank.
3) Tell us something fun about yourself!
School and work consume a lot of my time but when I am off, I enjoy spending time with friends and family doing a variety of things.
4) Was your first Barre class what you expected?
I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I immediately fell in love with the dance-inspired workouts. I danced for 15 years, and I enjoy exercising, so Barre was the perfect combination for me. Barre classes were exactly what I needed to get in full body work-outs. The variety of exercises and equipment we use keeps my body in check, triggering muscle groups I rarely use otherwise.
5) Why did you decide to invest in a membership at Barre Forte?
I invested in a 1-year membership because of how good I felt while I was at Barre and when I left. I enjoyed the Barre Forte during my first week of free classes and was making it a priority to go as much as I could. The "Barre Babes" (from the instructors to the clients) made me feel so welcomed from the very beginning; the classes are so varied and target all aspects of the body that I need to focus on and the many options given throughout class made me realize how important it is to 'listen' to my body doing what is best for me that day. I only went to the actual 'Barre' classes my first few weeks then I tried 'BodyFlow' and eventually 'Restorative Rolling'; I love all of them. The combination of Tai Chi, Yoga, and Pilates we do in BodyFlow helps improve my balance, flexibility, and overall strength and attitude. I always look forward to Restorative Rolling because it makes me conscious about my posture and aligns different parts of my body; this self-massage is always needed!
6) What makes this workout different from other exercises you have experienced?
I enjoy walking/jogging but when it comes to actually 'working out' and using weights I would stop when I got tired or I would put it off and not do strengthening exercises. Barre is not a dance routine, but I love that the exercise moves usually go along with the beat to the music. The strenuous and modified options are always offered throughout class.
7) What is your favorite Barre move so far? Why?
I love doing curtsy lunges and going into a relevé then pulsing that leg toward my elbow. I love this move because it works my waist-line, and it brings back happy memories from my dance background.
8) What results have you noticed so far?
Overall, my body is toned, and I have developed upper body strength which was definitely a goal. I am more energized, and I go about my days feeling better; I remind myself that everything will work out and happen in the timing it is supposed to.
9) Have you experienced any benefits from Barre that have affected you not just physically, but mentally, too?
I have most definitely experienced benefits both physically and mentally as my overall attitude and outlook on things has improved. When I leave Barre Forte, I feel motivated to be productive and accomplish tasks whether it is at home or for school.
10) What keeps you motivated to continue coming to Barre so consistently?
Feeling stronger motivates me to keep going because even when I am tired or stressed I can count on Barre to help me relieve some stress and be in a happier mind-set.
11) Is there anything you would like to share with potential new clients about your experience at Barre Forte?
It doesn't hurt to try something new; you may love it but if it isn't the fit for you then you will not have to wonder anymore. A dance background is not required so as long as you're moving, you've got it! The moves may be small, but as the instructors remind us throughout the class—‘small moves, big results'. If you have limitations or pain, modifications are offered for every move to still get a workout while keeping the body safe.
12.) What has been your favorite Barre event with us?
I have enjoyed the BodyFlow events at both One Love Café and First Magnitude. I'm looking forward to going to more events!
